Question

I know this has been brought up numerous times, but where did we get the idea that they were going to do these for every historical? I know at first we thought it was related to the movies, but then people were saying all the characters would get them. Where did that come from? Im just curious and cant remember. Personally I would like to see a friend character for every historical. The only downside I see to it is not having a real, brand new historical collection for a few years. But that is kind of a biggy, I really want a 1920s girl

I don't think anyone *KNOWS*. I'm just assuming, as we already know they'll be making Emily and Ruthie. That's half the girls right there, and they couldn't stop without doing at least one minority, it would "look bad."

Totally beside the point that I can't wait to see Josefina's and Addy's movies, .

I think it would be totally unfair to the fans of any one girl to not make a friend doll/movie. Kirsten fans will be sad if they don't make a Kirsten movie (but made a movie based on all the other Caucasian girls).

I agree that making friend dolls for all the girls means any new historical is being pushed back to at least 2010. That's an awful long time! Personally, I'd like to see them take a break after Emily, and do a new historical, and then finish up the friend dolls after the new one. However they're making an awful lot of money off of less work with the friend dolls, so who knows?

The advantage of a "friend" doll for each historical is that Mattel can sell two dolls for each of the historical periods with essentially no investment in the research it takes to make a historical doll. Thus, from a marketing point of view, friend dolls are a huge win and Mattel is a marketing company in spades...

The friends dolls are a great way for AG to sell another doll. They don't have to come up with a whole set of stories. Although I think they should. I want to hear more about Nellie and Elizabeth. Elizabeth's book was more about her sister then Elizabeth.

I do hope they made a movie of Josefina. I just love her story. I want to see the piano fall off the wagon. Her story is so full of love and laughter. I was to see Josefina get butted by the goat and end up in the water.

But I thought Julia Roberts only bought the rights to 3 movies. I guess we just get to wait and see.

What has AG gotten themselves into?

An LE every year?

A new friend doll every year?
Girls are going to be dissapointed if they find that their favorite historical isn't getting their friend but all the other ones got friends!

*big, big sigh*

I personally really like the friends dolls. I think it adds a play-ability-its fun to make up words-factor to the historicals that they have previously lacked. As much as I love them and prefer them to the AGoT, it is hard to play with them. By having a friend to go with them, you can really act out whatever you want. Even if a girl only has one doll her own friend might have the other. So, I like them anyway.

But I am also disappointed that a new historical might get pushed back for half a decade. I like Camis idea though. Taking a break half though to create a new historical would give them a change of pace and something more for fans to look forward to. I like that idea. Lets just see what AG does.

I also was under the impression that we were only assuming, its just that I had heard so much talk of it as fact that I was wondering what started that.

I like the idea of the friend dolls, but I think they shold still make a historical and they could even release a new historical and a new friend the same yr... I would love to see a 1950's or 1960's girl; or 1920's. there are so many decades to choose from... although what I really want to know is why do all the yrs end in 4?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">LOL, I have often wondered this myself. My reasoning for it is that they wanted them to all have something in common. But even more importantly, I think its related to the fact that the backdrop for most girl's story, takes place in the middle of the decade anyway. For Felicity the Revolution was starting in 1775, Addy is in 1864 because by then most people could see the south was going to lose, Molly is in 1944 because WWII was starting to wind down and Kit actually starts in 1932 when the depression was at its worst but ends a few years later when things started to improve in the middle of the decade.

But I also think that it is done because the middle of the decade is the height of that time period. For example, the early 90s look a little similar to the 80s and the late 90s look similar to the early 2000s. But 93-96 were the classic 90s and what we associate that era with. Do you follow or am I not making any sense?

Anyway, thats my theory on the years ending in 4'. Because keep in mind, that may be the year on the book, but it varies for each character. Like Kit's stories actually end in 1934 rather begin in that year and moves forward.

that's a good theory; thanks. I'll have to read Kit's stories sometime. I've only read the full stories of Felicity, Kiresten, Addy, Samantha, and Molly. and one book of Josefina's.
